It is only a month from now, can you guess, what special day is coming up? For those that hate this game, I will make it easy for you, Mother’s Day! Celebrating, enjoying or remembering mother is one of my preferred holidays. Yes, I am slightly partial in that I am a mother, but I expressing how much I cherish and praise her. I’m corny, but when you do not have alot of family, you are thankful for what you do have even more. The difficult thing about Mother’s Day isn’t my ability to verbally express my love for mother, it is a way to show it through gifts purchased or made. I must reveal, I do select the perfect cards and regularly add my personal thoughts, but back to my inability to find the perfect gift. I thought to myself, I can’t be the only one out there with this dilemma, so I chose to construct a list of promising gift ideas. I made up 3 lists to divde all of them. Conserving coin is on the top of several people’s “to-do” list.
1. Traditional: Flowers are a good staple. What person does not enjoy having a bouquet of gorgeous and colorful flowers? Of course, there is also the fruit bouquets or boxes. Yummy and healthy, perfect combination! On the flip side, there is chocolate! What woman doesn’t love chocolate? Dark, milk, white, sugar free, comes in so many forms and shapes. Jewelry is also a great option. You can get one of the those #1 Mom necklaces or a family tree with everyone’s birthstone. The classic baked homemade goodies or any made by hand project is a winner too! Of course many things today come engraved, digital or otherwise. Photoframes, cups, mouse pads or even key chains. A photo book could also fit the bill, you can personalize it and add comments. For instance plenty of websites offer photo book options and they even have coupons. You could try Snap Fish deals. Even your child’s handprint would be a awesome idea and cost effective. Overall, these are pretty traditional and believe me there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone loves a little tradition.
2. Gift Certificates: Maybe mother has a favorite department store she enjoys to window shop at or restaurant she loves eating at. Restaurant.com offers plenty of ideas and savings on their gift cards. Spoil her to a meal that includes dessert! One can even get a ittle clever and make-up your own gift certificate for special one on one time with you and the family. I always think of the Friends episode when Joey has a certificate for “Joey time”. Funny, but I am sure you would make an impression on her, especially if it is hand-made. C’mon she deserves it! Gift certificates are easy and that way mother can pick out when and where she enjoys her gift. In addition, they won’t spoil or die on her.
3. Personal Touch: Personalized stationary or special cards from you dedicated to mom are great! She could use it on an everyday basis and think of you at the same time. You could go with a license plate frame and tell the person in traffic behind your mom that she is loved and the best mom on this planet. A Spa day, massage, facial, hair day, manicure and pedicure day works with or without you. Clothes are also a good alternative, work out or dress. Does mother have a hobby? Crystals, stuffed animals, spoons? Contribute to her collection. Maybe she needs to get away from it all with a trip or vacation. Cruises or even a little road trip to wine country would do the trick. The right touch makes all the difference.
Some of these of course, could merge into all 3 lists depending on how you work it. Like the old adage, the very best things in life are free! Meaning the best gift of all,is YOU or as my mom says, her grandchild. Oh one more gift you can offer, grandkids!
